Money Saving Tips

When you’re living month to month, money worries and the rising cost of living can feel overwhelming. Temporary contracts, site closures, and growing family commitments can all place extra strain on your finances, while the risk of unexpected bills or fines can add to the ongoing stress.

Everyday Shopping:

Look for ways to cut spending by switching to better-value deals on bills, choosing more affordable supermarkets or buying in bulk, using coupons and discount apps, and considering second-hand or free items through platforms like Marketplace or Vinted.

Benefit Entitlement:

If you’re under financial pressure, it’s worth exploring what support you could receive. You don’t have to do this alone, there are advisers, calculators and tools available to guide you. You can also use services like Advicelocal to find support in your area.

Research:

MoneyHelper offers simple, practical tips on cutting costs, finding deals and managing your finances, along with helpful tools to support better money decisions.

Budgeting

Start by reviewing your budget using whatever works best for you: pen and paper, a spreadsheet or a budgeting app. Add up all household income, then deduct your essential costs to understand what you have left as your monthly spending budget. Looking at your bank statements from the past three months can help you track where your money is going and group your spending into categories.

These include rent or mortgage, utilities, travel and food. If you’re struggling, consider speaking to your landlord, bank or utility provider to explain your situation and ask about possible support, such as payment holidays.

Icon - UK money Surplus:

This is money spent on non-essential items. Keep an eye on regular spending like subscriptions, takeaways or daily coffees. These can add up quickly and may need to be reduced if you’re finding it hard to cover essential costs.
